I was born in 1958 in gary indiana and attended Garnett elementary school with members of the jackson five family. my elementary school years are where my appreciation for music started with listening to the vast variety of music played by my mother throughout our home. we listened to the likes of john coltrane, wes montgomery, howlin' wolf, muddy waters, rolling stones, eric clapton, bb and alberta king, stevie ray to all of motown. my uncle, walter phillips, a musician in his own right, gave me my first bass guitar when i was 11 years old. His influence coupled with my other uncle brewer phillips, who played guitar with hound dog taylor, made a tremendous impact on my direction to pursue music. playing in various bands throughout my jr. high and high school years. i continued to pursue my love of music. determined to create my own sound, i began to write my own music and I was hooked from that point on. i continued to write and perform musically with various local bands until i created hoosier blue in 1991. through my numerous music experiences with hoosier blue, i traveled performing from chicago and northwest indiana, to atlanta to venues such as the park tower blues festival in tokyo japan. i have opened for such acts as bobby blue bland, tyrone davis, millie jackson, lowell fulson, and others. since creating hoosier blue i have produced and released three albums. two contemporary blues and one smooth jazz. all totally written and produced by robert day. my latest release is "choices" (urban contemporary Blues) released in 2013 with a touch of country and jazz. i continue to create and write music.
